Dr. Cookie’s Healthier Gourmet Treat is Back on the Shelf
SEATTLE, Wash. November 2003 — Many frequent flyers still remember their first delicious bite of Dr. Cookie’s healthier gourmet treats, which were featured on several airlines during the 1980s. The popularity of these snacks even surprised the two medical doctors who launched the line in 1985, because they were concerned about the high cholesterol and sugar in most cookies. Fans who were disappointed when Dr. Cookie stopped production, are now able to buy their favorite treat again, thanks to Lefebvre & Mayfield, who have permission to use the exact same recipe and the Dr. Cookie name.
The cookies are available in bulk, packed in colorful tins or incorporated into gift baskets and packages or even in a doctor’s bag. They are available on line or by phone, and sold in the following flavors: Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip, Apple Walnut Raisin, Double Fudge Brownie, Mexican Tea Cookie and the not-so-low fat All Butter Shortbread.
These tasty, soft-baked cookies helped Dr. Marvin Wayne bake his way through medical school and then ease stress in Vietnam. Together, with cardiologist Stephen Yarnall, he launched Dr. Cookie Gourmet Cookie Co. in 1985 to make an array of delicious flavors available to the public. They gained many loyal customers when the cookies were served on airline flights. Believe it or not, the company receives calls from people who still have the wrapper from an airline flight decades ago. Today, Dr. Cookie is owned and operated by Lefebvre & Mayfield, who are long-time gift basket and corporate gift providers.
The cookies, just over an ounce each, are baked at a local bakery and individually wrapped for freshness. Students and adults love the way the cookies freeze and their convenient, portion-controlled size. In addition to nutritional information, the Dr. Cookie label will soon include diet exchange information.
